Barnes is a delightful place to live. This is the view that leads many residents to set up home here. As close to a village as it's possible to get without moving to the country, yet only twenty minutes from London Waterloo and central London. Barnes offers a myriad of housing styles in distinct areas from the thirties houses of North Barnes to the grand Victorian villas of Castelnau to small but appealing workers cottages in Little Chelsea.

Barnes is famous for being green and leafy - Barnes Common and the village green with its duck pond are focal points of the area and are popular places to spend an afternoon, walk the dog or push a pram. The Thames towpath and the Wetlands centre are both popular spots.

Head west along the Terrace to The White Hart with it's stunning river views and into Little Chelsea for great food at the Brown Dog, Idle Hour and The Treehouse. In North Barnes The Bridge provides locals with good food, beer and a fine wine list.

Food lovers are spoilt for choice in Barnes - Riva and San Remo for Italian, Indian Zilla, Monzil, Spice Of Night and Haweli for great curry whilst Nuays Thai at the Bulls Head provides great value Thai food. Newcomers to the area are Seasalt on White Hart Lane and Awesome Thai opposite the Olympic Cinema on Church Road.

Very much a coffee shop culture, Orange Pekoe, Giulianos and The Corner Café keep Barnes residents caffeine levels topped up!

Barnes is well known for its local, independent shops. Nina, Melanie and Chattertons for womens clothes, Palmer for Mens clothing. At the top of Church Road is Green and pleasant and Nonsuch for interiors toward the river is Jinteriors. Sinead Kelly on White Hart Lane is a hairdressers and beauty salon with a difference.

Mention of Barnes cannot be made without speaking of its schools. Many families move to Barnes specifically for the excellence of its primary schools like Barnes Primary, St Osmunds and Lowther School or private schools like Colet Court, St Pauls and The Harrodian.
